ImageI had a horrible day on Wednesday. It was just one of those days when I looked bad, felt worse, and became completely overwhelmed with my workload. I had plans to go to dinner with my friend Sarah, but I was exhausted. I called her to see if we could reschedule. She totally flipped out and told me it was "really important" that we keep the original plans. After a little prying, I learned that she had invited a male coworker to join us for dinner. She's been trying to set me up with this guy for several weeks, but I always refused. This was her sneaky tactic for the two of us to meet.

The last thing I wanted to do was meet someone new, given the way I felt that day. I finally agreed to go just to make Sarah happy. I showed up at the restaurant-Thai Tara on 6th Street-and realized I was the first to arrive. I grabbed a table and ordered a glass of wine. Something told me I was going to need it.

After a few minutes, Sarah sent me the following text: "John on his way. I'm not coming. Have fun." Damn her! Before I could make a swift exit, John walked through the door and right toward me. Damn again! Turns out, John is a guy from my gym who asked me out more than ten times last year. I consistently turned him down, but he never seemed to get the message. I initially told him I was too busy to go out, but he continued to harass me. After a few weeks, I resorted to honesty-"I'm not at all interested in going out with you. Please stop asking."

As John walked into the restaurant, I thought for sure he'd be mortified when he saw me. I initially tried to be polite to ease the uncomfortable situation. But John quickly informed me he knew I was Sarah's friend, so this wasn't a bizarre coincidence. He had seen my picture on Sarah's desk, where she kept a big group picture of our friends. He asked her to arrange the meeting.  Obviously pleased with his ingenuity, John smiled broadly and said, "You see, when I want something, I always find a way to get it."

I should have run for the door immediately. He had just confirmed all of my prior feelings about his creepiness. But I was hungry. I made a quick decision to eat and end the meal as soon as possible. Since John did nothing but talk about himself, it was easy to zone out during dinner. After we ate, he tried to reach for the dessert menu, but I literally took it out of his hands. I told him I had to get going. I was no longer in the mood to be polite. I asked for the check and took out my credit card. John insisted on paying, and I let him. I just wanted to end this horrible evening and get home.

As soon as the server returned the credit card receipt, I got up from the table, thanked him and started for the door. He ran after me and accompanied me to my car. As I opened the door, he grabbed my waist and tried to pull me in for a kiss. I pushed him away, told him to get lost, and started to get into the car. As I was shutting the door, I heard him say something about me being a "tease" and how he paid for dinner and should at least get a kiss. Are you kidding me?
