The kids and I were walking down Sesame Street the other day on our way to Mr. Rogers’ Neighborhood when we heard The Backyardigans having a party! I don’t know if you have ever partied with them, but they get wild! The last one they had got out of hand when Barney & Friends showed up uninvited and everybody wanted him to leave. You know how annoying that purple dinosaur can be. But, the kids love him so he was allowed to stay as long as he didn’t sing any of those awful songs that make the parents run screaming to the margarita machine.
This shindig had just started when we arrived so The Wonder Pets had not had a chance to gobble up the vegetable and cracker tray. In the far corner of the yard the Teletubbies were jumping on the trampoline with The Wiggles trying to make them spill their Foster’s Lager. I don’t know how he does it, but Jeff was asleep during the game. We walked back there and yelled “Wake up Jeff!” and he dumped his beer all over himself. We laughed so hard! Buster caught it all on video for his Postcards.
As we made our way over to the punch bowl and cookies, we found a place to sit Between the Lions and The Fairly Odd Parents. Those lions are very entertaining readers so we hung out with them for a bit. It didn’t take long for Dora the Explorer to find the party. She said Boots couldn’t make it this time because he was at home sick with the flu. I don’t believe that for a second. Boots doesn’t play well with the 64 Zoo Lane crew and last time he came to a Backyardigans party he took The Map and went home. Dora noticed the slip ‘n slide in the yard and yelled, “Go, Diego, Go!” He got a long running start and slid all the way down off the end right into Clifford the Big Red Dog! Thank goodness Clifford was there because behind him was Thomas the Tank Engine. One time Joe from Blues Clues slid down the slip ‘n slide and went head first into Thomas! Bob the Builder had to take him to the doctor and since The Magic School Bus had already left they called Farmer Pickles to see if he could bring Scoop to ride in.
Once everybody had arrived the Veggie Tales took the stage. Larry the Cucumber started singing those silly songs again and had the whole party laughing! Bob the Tomato was just coming out of a sugar coma after eating three slices of cake and joined the others on stage. Little Bear was sitting down next to Winnie the Pooh (they looked so cute) and they were belting out the tunes with Madame Blueberry! We tried to get Eeyore to sing, too, but he was a little gloomy. Tigger bounced over the stage a few times until he knocked over the microphones and the Veggie Tales’ juice boxes and was asked to sit down. Silly Tigger. Luckily SpongeBob SquarePants was on the front row so he jumped up there and soaked up all the juice before it fried out the PA system.
On the patio, Maya & Miguel were getting a team Four Square game started. Lilo & Stitch want to play! The Berestain Bears were trying to decide who was going to represent their family. Papa Bear and Brother Bear have a wicked bounce, but Sister Bear’s backspin is incredible! Mama Bear usually sits out the game so she can catch up with the Dragon Tales. They hardly ever come over for dinner anymore since they moved out of the neighborhood and she misses their funny stories. Stanley and Arthur teamed up while The Berenstain Bears were still playing Rock, Paper, Scissors to decide their team. Blue and Joe noticed the game getting together and ran over to play. To be sure they could, Blue hid the ball and made everyone play Blue’s Clues to find it. That little dog sure knows how to have a good time! After the Looney Tunes found the ball the game was on.
The party started winding down around sunset, as most everybody had to be home when the streetlights came on. Big Bird and Grover offered to give rides to anybody who was too tired to walk home in this Lazy Town. What a great party. The Backyardigans have done it again!
I think I need more adults in my life.
