The gang
got together last weekend for Friends' Thanksgiving and we totally outdid the
last party at The Backyardigans house. Friends' Thanksgiving is an annual
get-together that happens on the Saturday after Thanksgiving Day when most of
us are back in town from visiting family. This time we all met Curious George
and The Man in the Yellow Hat out at their house in the country. The Magic
School Bus picked us up in front of Big Bird's nest on Sesame Street. Big Bird had a keg so we loaded it
up for the ride out there. Everybody brought a tent and sleeping bags and we
partied until dawn! Some of us were wishing Madame Blueberry had not made those
blueberry Jell-O shots.
When we all
arrived, Bob the Builder and his new addition to the team, Scrambler went out
to collect wood for the bonfire. Farmer Pickles joined them in Scoop so they
would only have to make one trip. Handy Manny was standing around shuffling his
feet hoping they would ask him to go, too. He sometimes feels overshadowed by Bob,
but knows he is just as good at fixing things. I think he also has a crush on
Wendy. Bob saw him looking around for something to do so he asked him to come.
What a good friend!
Over at the
horseshoe pit, The Wiggles were in the middle of an intense match. Murray and
Greg were on a team and they had a leaner. Anthony was trying to wake up Jeff
for his turn, but I think he drank too much of that keg on The Magic School
Bus. Henry the Octopus stepped in to throw for Jeff and let me tell you, don't
ever play horseshoes with an octopus. Henry curved that shoe around, knocked
their leaner down, and got a ringer to win the game! Bob the Tomato and Larry
the Cucumber from the Veggie Tales were up next. They slowly backed away from
the game and ran to the food table. There was no way those two were going to
play that octopus. They don't even have any hands!
Back in the
house, Spongebob Squarepants was helping Mr. Krabs get all of the Krabby
Patties cooked. Patrick Star was hungry so he was eating them almost as fast as
they could make them. Curious George finally took him outside to show him his
new kite. Madame Blueberry was thankful because her homemade rolls were about
to come out of the oven.
When Bob
the Builder and the crew came back with the firewood it was time to build the
bonfire! Nothing brings friends closer together than starting big fires. Dora
the Explorer and her cousin Diego like to show off and started the fire with a
rock and stick. The Map left to go get a soda so nobody would accidentally toss
him in as kindling. Once the fire was roaring we all sat down to listen to the
Veggie Tales sing their acoustic version of "Stairway to Heaven". Led Zeppelin
had them open up one of their shows with it and the crowd went nuts! Those
vegetables sure know how to rock out! When Burt and Ernie took the stage with
them they busted out Ted Nugent's "Cat Scratch Fever". You should have seen the
look on Garfield's face! Odie could not stop laughing.
After the
jam session was over we all headed to the buffet. We made Clifford the Big Red
Dog and the Dragon Tales go to the back of the line so there would be food left
for the rest of us. The Man in the Yellow Hat cooked up a delicious turkey and
I could see that Big Bird was kind of nervous. We had joked with him on the
ride out that if the turkey wasn't big enough to feed all of us, we were going
to cook him over the bonfire! He knows we were kidding, but was relieved to see
that the bird was indeed big enough.
The Backyardigans and the 64 Zoo Lane bunch finished eating and starting
warming up for the annual Friends' Thanksgiving football game. Every
year they start out playing touch football but during the second
half they begin tackling each other. When the little critters get
hurt they start subbing in other players and the game takes on a whole new
look. Have you ever tried to tackle Thomas the Tank Engine? One year,
Snuffleupagus jumped on him and Thomas dragged him all the way to the end zone
for a touchdown! Poor Snuffy was all beat up. Mr. Rogers always got a good
laugh watching this game. He never played, though. He was perfectly happy
sitting on the sidelines changing shoes, cheering everybody on and handing out
cups of juice. We sure miss him.
As the day turned to night and the
keg floated, we thought we might turn in early. That's when Steve, Joe, and
Blue showed up with the rest of the Blue's Clues characters. Steve is in
college now and old enough to buy beer. Well, guess what? Yep, he brought
another keg! This time it was Foster's Lager and The Wiggles about wet their
pants they were so excited. The Fairly Odd Parents had to go sit Between the
Lions and the Berestain Bears as they had already consumed enough beer and were
attempting to arm-wrestle each other. Those crazy cats lose every time but always
come back for more!
The next day we cleaned up our mess
and thanked The Man in the Yellow Hat and Curious George for their generous
hospitality. We talked about how we missed Pooh, Tigger, Eeyore, and Piglet,
and what fun they would have had. Christopher Robin was throwing a bash in the
Hundred Acre Wood for his family all weekend so they couldn't make it this
year. The Wonder Pets asked why Barney & Friends didn't come.
Oops. We forgot
to call that annoying purple dinosaur. Oh well, maybe next year.
