ImageSomeone once said that, "Everything ends badly, or else it wouldn't end." And with time running out on the Longhorn's season, it looked as if things would end worse than a Michael Mann movie this season.  Fortunately thanks to some last second heroics by Colt McCoy and Quan Cosby, Texas was able to buck the odds (I'm full of them) and beat Ohio State 24-21 in the Fiesta Bowl washing away the bitter taste that the BCS had left in their mouths.

In a hard fought game where the lead changed hands four times it was only fitting that the Horns finished off the Buckeyes the same way that the Red Raiders had finished them off on November

1st, by hitting a last second touchdown to win the game.   Both games had a similar feel as the Longhorns offense played like absolute crap in the first half, but unlike the Tech game the UT defense was up for the test in the Fiesta Bowl holding the Buckeyes to just 6 points in the first half.  The defense would eventually falter in the second half, giving up 15 points, but by that point Colt McCoy and the Texas offense had finally figured out the Ohio State defense and the Horns were able to score 21 points of their own.

Of course none of those points would've been possible had it not been for the heroics of Quan Cosby and Colt McCoy, who accounted for all three of the Longhorn scores in the second half.  McCoy didn't have his best game as evidenced by several bad passes and a crushing interception at the end of the first half, but when the chips were down McCoy came through as he has done so many times through out his career.  The junior quarterback from Tuscola, Texas looked like a cross between Major Applewhite and Vince Young on Monday night as he just kept finding ways to get his team into the end zone.  It's a damn shame that McCoy didn't win the Heisman trophy, but in his defense Texas wasn't throwing the football in the 4th quarter with 21 point leads just to  pad their stats.  Am I bitter?  Yes I am.

Unfortunately as sweet as Monday nights victory was it probably wasn't enough to propel the Longhorns into a share of a National Title since Ohio State was only ranked 10th and the fact that USC and Utah both posted strong victories over higher ranked teams.  Still on the bright Texas fans can take solace in the fact that they will most likely finish in the top five, UT beat Oklahoma and A&M and the team closed out the season by winning one the most exciting bowl game of the season!  Not to mention that now that the National Championship is out of the picture UT fans can throw all of their energy into cheering against the Oklahoma Sooners and when has cheering against those jackasses ever NOT felt good?
