I am in the middle of an eight-day tour of Alaska and the countryside is not the only thing that looks bleak.
I was fortunate enough to have been invited on a cruise from Vancouver
to Glacier Bay and the Inner Passage. I’ve done comedy on cruises many
times so the only new aspects for me are the locale and the fact that
I’m not working directly for the cruise line.
I have been asked to come along as part of a private party for the
hosts and listeners of a morning radio show in Austin who have decided
to spend their vacation here. This means that I can do whatever I want
at the show and don’t have to worry about offending children or seniors
at the show.
This morning, my youngest woke me up at 6am. I thanked him for allowing me to get a jump on the day, instead of letting me waste another hour or so sleeping. He proudly showed me the book he checked out from the school library. "Can we do some of this stuff, Mom? Can we?"
I looked at the book. Reader's Digest/How Science Works: 100 Ways Parents and Kids Can Share the Secrets of Science.
"Oh boy! You bet!" I said. "Let me at it!"
"Yay!" He said. "Mom, you are the BEST. You always nurture my quest for knowledge."
"Think nothing of it, my boy! Nothing pleases me more than empowering you on a daily basis!" I said, smiling into his twinkling, intelligent eyes.
Unofficially, we are 1-1 and 1. Unofficially, that is because the YMCA does not keep score. However, when a team does score a touchdown they have the option to try a conversion from the two yard line or the five yard line. Therefore the scoring system is as follows:
Touchdown = 6 points.
Extra Point = 1 point from the two yard line (team must pass) 2 points from the 5 yard line (run or pass)
Safety = 2 points.
